چکیده

In the competitive retail industry many retailers employ the strategy of bundling goods they merchandize with optional value-added packages to enhance the attraction of the goods and increase the revenue. The package offerings can vary with the inventory level of the goods. Offering such packages impacts upon the sales of the goods, and hence, affects inventory management of the goods. In this paper we propose a model to analyze the optimal choice of package offerings and the optimal management of the goods inventory for a single type of goods. We define a procedure to construct superior offerings which are shown to contain the optimal package offerings for all inventory levels of the goods. After obtaining structural properties of the superior offerings and applying an existent result, we deduce that the optimal inventory management policy is of the reorder-point, order-up-to-level, or (s, S), type and the optimal choice of the package offerings at any given inventory level of the goods is one of the superior offerings. We further show that, when the market is separated into independent segments, each segment can be treated independently for the purpose of selecting the optimal offerings. Numerical examples show that the optimal dynamic choice of the package offerings can substantially improve profitability over the policy of offering the same packages all of the time.

Studies on Some Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items with Weibull Replinishment and Generalised Pareto Decay Having Demands as Function of on Hand Inventory

Inventory models play an important role in determining the optimal ordering and pricing policies. Much work has been reported in literature regarding inventory models with finite or infinite replenishment. But in many practical situations the replenishment is governed by random factors like procurement, transportation, environmental condition, availability of raw material etc., Hence, it is nee...

Finished goods management for JIT production: New models for analysis

A firm is considered that manages its internal manufacturing operations according to a just-in-time system, but maintains an inventory of finished goods as a buffer against random demands from external customers. An Optimal Replenishment Policy for Seasonal and Deteriorating Items

This study discusses the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy for products with a seasonal demand pattern. The demand of seasonal merchandise such as clothes, sporting goods, children’s toys and electrical home appearances tends to decrease with time. In this study, we focus on “Special Display Goods”, which are heaped up in end displays or special areas at the retail store. They are sold at...

Optimal pricing and replenishment policies for instantaneous deteriorating items with backlogging and trade credit under inflation

In this paper we develop an economic order quantity model to investigate the optimal replenishment policies for instantaneous deteriorating items under inflation and trade credit. Demand rate is a linear function of selling price and decreases negative exponentially with time over a finite planning horizon. Shortages are allowed and partially backlogged. Under these conditions, we model the ret...
